Mesoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Changchengian (Statherian) Ch (14)

Province:
Qinghai

Type Locality and Naming

East-central Qinghai. The Xiaomiao Gr was named by Zhuang Qingxing et al. in 1986. The type section is situated at Xiaomiao in middle reaches of Nomhon River, Dulan County, Qinghai Province.

This stratigraphic horizon of quartzite of the group is rather stable and serves as key bed for regional stratigraphic correlation. It is 700 m thick in the reference section.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The basal contact relation with the underlying Jinshuikou Gr is unknown.

Upper contact

It is in unconformable contact with Qiujidonggou Gr

Regional extent

East-central Qinghai. The group is sporadically distributed along the south margin of Qaidam Basin. It is rather stable in lithological character, but variable in thickness, for example, it is over 2300 m in Kaimuqi, but is thinned to less than 2000 m upstream of Baisha River, and only 600 m in Shan, Yuyao and Shangyu counties mountain south of Nomhon.
